A peek at my DM’s from this past week or so:
John! Did you know Princess Victoria has a new book?Â
Yes, I did.
What’s it about?Â
It’s about her life, of course.
Is it a sequel to the one she wrote with you?Â
No. There are some repeats, some new stories, and some deep dives with her family and wrestling.
But her first book was great. Why did she write a new one?Â
Well, first of all, Thomas Strazdas wrote this one.
Who is Thomas Strazdas?Â
He’s her DDP Yoga coach. He’s the man responsible for Vicki feeling healthier and moving better than she has in years. The two of them have spent hours over video chat the last few years working on her health and getting to know one another.
Through the course of those conversations, Thomas got to know her story. And he was inspired! He wanted to tell her story himself, and he did it with her blessing.
But, she already has a book.Â
Yes, she does. And I can name you several male wrestlers who have had multiple books written about them as well. Some of those men deserve the coverage. Others, not so much. Some, it should be noted, are terrible human beings who shouldn’t be celebrated. And yet, they have multiple books written (and being written!) about them.
Folks, we don’t have enough coverage of women’s wrestling. Not currently, not historically. And while their numbers in the business today are much greater than in the past, their stories deserve to be told.
Princess Victoria is one of them, and I see only good coming from a new book about her life.
More people will know who she is.
Her fans will get to know her a little more deeply, from a new perspective.
Readers will also learn about the ladies she came up with, women like Velvet McIntyre, Sherri Martel, Leilani Kai, Judy Martin. Ladies who also have stories worth preserving.
Maybe Thomas will write with more of them.
Or maybe some more new authors will join the fray.
I’m happy Vicki has a second book. She’s a great lady, and we share a love for the new generation coming up. She was nothing but kind and supportive to the ladies of Girl Fight when she came to Indiana several years ago.
She’s one of the good ones, who never should have been cast off.
So please, go support her and Thomas. Let’s show the wrestling community we need and want and will read more stories about those legendary ladies.
